How Mustafizur discovered Russell’s weakness

Mustafizur Rahman, then playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad, bowled a fast yorker to Andre Russell of Kolkata Knight Riders in 2016. That yorker went through to the stumps and Russell was floored. Mustafizur’s new captain Rohit Sharma explained how it happened.

How Mustafizur discovered Russell's weakness

Windies toured Bangladesh in 2012. At that time, Mustafizur was a net bowler. He found out that Russell had a problem while playing yorkers. Three and half years later, the Fizz used his yorker to Russell in IPL which went out to be one of the best deliveries of the season.

“What he’s saying is that he was a net bowler and West Indies’ (now Windies) national cricket team were touring Bangladesh and Andre Russell to come in front of him and face him. So, he was trying to bowl those yorkers to him and he saw him struggling,” Rohit explained.

“So, that’s how he knew that he struggles to yorkers because he’s got a huge backlift. He explored his weakness there and he tried here, used it against him and it worked for him,” he added.

Mustafizur has played six matches for Mumbai Indians this season. He picked seven wickets at an economy rate of 8.34. He is yet to play again after taking part in those first six games.
