Hussey wants Dhoni to play for another 10 years
Former Indian captain MS Dhoni has been away from cricket since the end of the World Cup. He was set to come back during the Indian Premier League (IPL), but the pandemic forced to postpone the tournament.
With the Indian batsman MS Dhoni nowhere to be seen after the World Cup in England, it has turned into a massive talking point about the future of the former captain. His place in the upcoming T20 World Cup was also in doubt due to his absence in international cricket for months now.
India’s head coach Ravi Shastri earlier said the experienced batsman have to score runs in the IPL to get a place in the side. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, both the tournament’s future is uncertain at the moment.
While many want Dhoni to hang off his boots, former Australia batsman and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team-mate Michael Hussey made a surprise comment. He wants Dhoni to play for another 10 years and also labelled him as an incredible person on and off the field.
“He’s been an incredible person and player for CSK for so long, and India for that matter, and we hope he keeps playing for another 10 years. I’m not sure we’re going to be able to see that, so hopefully he can play for as long as he can,” he said.
The former Australian batsman also claimed Dhoni is arguably the best Indian captain in their history and explained how his support made the current Indian captain Virat Kohli a good captain.
“I think you got to give a lot of kudos to Virat Kohli, having someone like MS Dhoni still in the team who’s been, arguably, India’s most successful captain. Sometimes some people would find that threatening to still have that person in the team.”
“But that’s where you need to tip your hat to Virat and so you know he’s obviously got the personality to say ‘no, no I would like this guy around. I can learn from this guy, and he’s going to help me get down the better skipper and obviously have a better team,” he concluded.
