I risked my future by opting out of Bangladesh tour: Alex Hales

English right-handed opening batsman Alex Hales, after smashing yet another ODI ton Barbados against West Indies on his return, has admitted that he risked his England future by opting out of the tour to Bangladesh last year. “It was encouraging and pleasing they stuck with me,” admitted
Hales. “It was obviously my choice not to tour Bangladesh and it gave the opportunity for other people to come in and do well. That was a risk I knew I was taking and the injury then came at a bad time for me.

“Sam (Billings) came in and performed well, so for them to stick with me was very pleasing and I’m glad I’ve repaid that faith. It was always going to be a risk me leaving a spot open by choosing not to tour. It’s been a tough winter.” [Read also: Irfan, Shahzaib summoned]

The 6 ft 5 in tall Hales, who is a part-time medium pacer and also keeps the wicket occasionally, has so far played 41 ODIs and 11 Tests for England. While he has made a noteworthy comeback to the England ODI team by hitting 110 on Thursday, it will be interesting to see whether or not he gets another go in England white-uniform side.
