I wanted to be attractive to the girls : Andre Russell
West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell is now one of the top T20 cricketers in the world. His devastating batting and fast bowling are now the norm for many all-rounders. Especially for his batting prowess, he’s praised all over the world.
Russell, however, did not only make himself strong for cricket. The real motive behind him becoming such hard hitter was to attract girls.
Yes, it may sound strange. But Andre Russell himself acknowledged that. The Caribbean all-rounder said he had done a great deal of damage to the body after thinking of impressing girls.
Being such a ‘muscle man’, most people in the gym just look at the upper body. Because everybody praises the large muscle, wide shoulders and chest. So many skip the exercise of the legs and thighs. Russell also made that mistake.
Russell’s knee injury was old. But Russell did not notice. He still regretted that mistake. The Caribbean all-rounder said, “For those who want to be another Russell, what has happened to me should not happen to them. When I was 23 or 24, I had a knee injury.
“If anyone were to tell me – look, Russell, you must strengthen your knee by doing these minor exercises. Then my knee would not have this pain, maybe I would not have to have surgery. Unfortunately, at 23, I was fearless. I didn’t notice the pain. Maybe I ran with the pain killer too.”
“But as I turn thirty, I continue to experience pain that has never happened before. If I was exercising properly at that time, it would not have happened,” Russell added.
Russell leaked the mystery of why he was only lying on the upper body. The Caribbean all-rounder said, “I want young people to not just be on top of their bodies. I used to go to the gym and just work on my abs and shoulders.
“I wanted it to be attractive to the girls. But to be interesting, at the end of the day my legs got weak, it didn’t work. So it is very important to exercise whole body. If I had worked with my feet then I could have done something more wonderful now.”
