India should play Kuldeep and Chahal together: Harbhajan Singh

Indian cricket team were unstoppable since the start of the tour as they completed a 5-0 whitewash against New Zealand. However, during the first ODI match at Seddon Park in Hamilton, India experienced hiccups as they were handed the first defeat in the ongoing tour.

Indian batsmen played very well but the bowlers failed to defend the target and thereby the hosts capitalised the chances to better effect and took the first lead in the three-match ODI series.

Meanwhile, the out-of-favour spinner Harbhajan Singh added that the hosts’ batting lineup is rock-solid to tackle the pacers that they face in home conditions.

However, they would surely struggle against spin as usual, particularly in the middle overs. Harbhajan said that Virat Kohli usually plays his best legspinners, Kuldeep and Chahal and for that, the team management would have to drop Kedar Jadhav in order to give space for the wrist-spin duo.

“I would like to see both spinners playing together – Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. This New Zealand team will play fast bowlers on any given day and they will take anyone on. But when it comes to playing spinners, it has always been a case for them. You can get those wickets in the middle overs.

So I would like to see both the spinners play together. Maybe leave out Kedar Jadhav and play an extra spinner,” Harbhajan Singh told Star Sports, as quoted by Hindustan Times.

Apart from Harbhajan Singh, even New Zealand all-rounder, Corey Anderson believes India should play the legspinner duo in the next match for the best result.

“I would like to see both the spinners play for the India side but I think that they will go with only one because of the small size of the ground in Auckland. I think they can bring in a quick or strengthen the batting a bit more with an all-rounder maybe,” Anderson added.

The second ODI is scheduled to be played at Eden Park in Auckland, on February 8, Saturday.
