India to field dual teams in Sri Lanka and England

Given India’s strong domestic set-up and IPL stars evolving, having dual teams at separate parts of the world was only a matter of time. Australia have done it on several occasions. They were set to have separate teams in New Zealand (five T20Is) and South Africa (three Tests) but the Test tour was called off due to pandemic.

India Test team will fly for UK on June 2, a contingenct that will include some regular limited-overs players as well. After playing the World Test Championship final against New Zealand on June 18-22, India will stay back and wait till five-match Test series with England begins in August.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly revealed that India would tour Sri Lanka in July. As per the Future Tours Programme (FTP), the tour should have three ODIs and five T20Is, but that has cut down to six white-ball matches with three T20Is. The ODI series will form part of Cricket World Cup Super League.

The likes of Kohli, Rohit, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah who generally play white ball cricket will eventually miss the Sri Lanka tour, as per sources.

Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Hardik Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal, Sanju Samson, Prithvi Shaw, Deepak Chahar, Rahul Chahar, Jaydev Unadkat, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy and Rahul Tewatia will be among the mix for Sri Lanka tour. Someone else apart from Kohli and Rohit will need to lead India.

As revealed by ESPNcricinfo, Sri Lanka will host the three ODIs on July 13, 16, 19 and the T20Is on July 22, 24, 27.

India last toured Sri Lanka in 2018 when they sealed a cliffhanging final against Bangladesh in the Nidahas Trophy T20.
