India’s Sri Lanka tour called off

Virat Kohli’s team won’t be travelling to Sri Lanka next month. According to the highly placed sources in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the tour has been called off and the decision has already been conveyed to the SLC on Thursday.

Indian team was scheduled to play three ODIs and three T20i matches but due to the prevailing COVID-19 situation worldwide, the tour is not taking place.

“Although, BCCI remains committed to the FTP and towards its fellow members, it will have to seek the advice from Government of India and the health regulatory authorities before taking any decision for the resumption of Cricket,”

stated BCCI in a letter to the Sri Lanka Cricket board (SLC).

After that, SLC confirmed the news on Thursday (June 11). “The India national team tour of Sri Lanka, which was scheduled to take place during the month of June, 2020 will not go ahead, as scheduled,” SLC said in a media release.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) informed Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) that due to the prevailing circumstances revolving around Covid-19 pandemic, the cricket series, which included three ODIs and three T20I matches will not be feasible.”

Sri Lanka’s next schedule is Test series against Bangladesh, originally due to be played in July. But Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has not showed any interest yet.
