IPL 2018: Best XI of the tournament
The 11th edition of Indian Premier League season came to an end with the crowd favourite, Chennai Super Kings lifting the trophy. The Yellow Army beat the Orange army in the tough finals to clinch their third IPL title.
The IPL 2018 provided some unforgettable memories to the fans. The players from Associate nations performed well in the big stage. And the most notable thing is the players like Ms Dhoni and Shane Watson found their old form and destroyed their opponents.
Arguably, this was the most entertaining season of the tournament so far. We have seen many brilliant performers in this IPL. Here we take a look at the Best XI of the IPL 2018.

1. KL Rahul – Kings XI Punjab
The Kings XI Punjab opener, KL Rahul proved his worth in this season of IPL. Rahul smashed the fastest fifty of just 14 balls against Delhi Daredevils. Then he went on to score 6 half-centuries in the season.
He scored 659 runs in the 14 games that he played at an good average of 54.91. Kings XI Punjab got a good start as they won five games in their first 6 matches. But, their middle order batsmen failed to contribute that knocked them out of the tournament.
2. Shane Watson – Chennai Super Kings
The former Australian hit an unbeaten 117 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the finals and helped his team to lift the IPL trophy for the third time. Watson scored two centuries – one against Rajasthan Royals and another one against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
He has played 15 games and accumulated 555 runs at an average of around 40. Watto made useful contributions with the ball at the start of IPL season. Shane Watson finished the season as the second highest run-getter for CSK.
3. Kane Williamson – Sunrisers Hyderabad
The Sunrisers Hyderabad hit with a bad news just before the start of 11th edition of IPL. With the absence of David Warner, Kiwi’s Kane Williamson took the captaincy job and fulfilled the David Warner’s place.
His aggressive fielding, captaincy and batting led them to the final of IPL 2018. Williamson surprised everyone by defending low scores in this season. The Orange Cap holder plundered 735 runs in the 17 games at an average of 52 including 8 fifties.
4. Jos Buttler – Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals looked down and out at one stage and then the team management made a big move that changed their fortunes. The big move was to promote England’s Jos Buttler to open the innings.
Buttler smashed five consecutive fifties and equalled the record with Virender Sehwag. He scored 548 runs in the 13 games including a unbeaten knock of 95.
5. Ambati Rayudu – Chennai Super Kings
The Indian cricketer had a dream season as he scored 602 runs in the 16 matches. He smashed three fifties and a century. Rayudu got a chance to open the innings for CSK and proved his ability with bat.
He played at every position and contributed well in the season. Ambati Rayudu scored his only century against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
6. Rishabh Pant – Delhi Daredevils
The young player from Delhi Daredevils, Rishabh Pant have won the Emerging Player of the Season award. He was leading run scorer of the tournament at the end of the league stages.
Pant amassed 684 runs in the 14 games that he played, at an average of over 52. He has five fifties and scored his only century (128) against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
7. Ms Dhoni (C and WK) – Chennai Super Kings
The former Indian captain Ms Dhoni found his old form during this season. Still he has the ability to finish the games with some big shots.
He plundered unbeated 79 against KXIP and 22-ball fifty against Delhi Daredevils to entertain the audiences. He has played 16 games and scored 455 runs at an massive average of 75.83 with a great strike-rate of 150.66.
8. Sunil Narine – Kolkata Knight Riders
The West Indies all-rounder Sunil Narine contributed well with both bat and ball. He was retained by the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise ahead of the 11th season of IPL.
In 16 games that he played, he scored 357 runs with bat and bagged 17 wickets with the ball. He has a huge strike-rate of 189.98, which is best in the season.
9. Andrew Tye – Kings XI Punjab
Kings XI Punjab had another decent season in the IPL history. But, Andrew Tye had a very good tournament as he won the Purple Cap for having most number of wickets.
He played 14 games and picked 24 wickets – which is most in the season. The Australian bowler, Andrew Tye took three four-wickets hauls in the 11th edition of IPL.
10. Rashid Khan – Sunrisers Hyderabad
The Afghanistan spinner had another fruitful season. He was the key bowler for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last 3 editions of IPL. He took 3 wickets in the Qualifier 2 game against KKR and helped his team to qualify for finals.
In the game against Kolkata Knight Riders, he played a cameo knock of 10-ball 34 at the end. Rashid Khan also bagged the big wickets like AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli, Ms Dhoni and many more. He has played 17 games and grabbed 21 wickets at an economy rate of 6.73.
11. Umesh Yadav – Royal Challengers Bangalore
Apart from Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, Umesh Yadav was the only player who performed well for RCB. He picked up crucial wickets and troubled the batsmen with his pace.
He has played 14 games and returned with 20 wickets at a strike-rate of 15.95. Umesh Yadav’s best bowling figure of 3 for 23 came against Kings XI Punjab when he removed Mayank Agarwal, Aaron Finch and Yuvraj Singh in the same over.
