Jones predicts Ashwin to have ‘ripper of a series’
Ahead of India’s forthcoming tour to Australia, former Aussie batsman Dean Jones has predicted India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin to have a ‘ripper of a series’.
In India’s last Test series in Australia back in 2014-15 season, Ashwin had played three matches after beinng rested in the opening Test and taken 12 wickets at an average of 48.66 and strike-rate of 85.80 to finish as India’s second-highest wicket-taker after Mohammed Shami (15).
This time around, Jones backed Ashwin to have an even better series when India play the hosts in four Tests starting from December 6 in Adelaide.
He is also of the opinion that it is the best ever chance for India to break the deadlock and finally win a Test series Down Under.
“India have a good chance, they’ve never won a Test series over here, and if they don’t I would be surprised.”
Apart from Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav will be the other biggest challenge for Australia’s batsmen, believes Jones.
“How Australia play Ashwin and Kuldeep is going to decisive, and that’s why I think we have to have Handscomb and Finch, who are our best players of spin, available so they can counter them,” said Jones, who played 42 Test matches for Australia.
