Kohli becomes no.1 Test batsman
Virat Kohli achieved another milestone after the first Test of the five match Test series with England. In the lastly updated Test performance ranking by International Cricket Council, released after the match, Indian skipper Virat Kohli has gained the top most position among the Test batsmen.
He was at the second position before the start of the Edgbaston Test. With his remarkable innings of 149 in the first innings and 51 in the second innings, Kohli managed to climb up the ladder and became the no.1 Test batsman.
Now Kohli leads the table with five more points than Steve Smith, the Australian skipper who is on one year ban since March this year for the ball tampering incident in the South Africa Test series. Kohli, now, is also holding the record of gaining highest number of rating points in Test among all Indian batsmen.
After 2011, an Indian player is featuring at the top of the ICC Test batsman ranking. Sachin Tendulkar was the last one to feature at the top along with Jacque Kallis.
The present Indian skipper is only the seventh Indian batsman to achieve the feat. Before him, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, Gautam Gambhir and Dillip Vengaskar were ranked top in the table.
It took 67 matches for Virat Kohli to achieve the current spot.
