Kohli equals Afridi’s record in T20Is

The run-machine’s impeccable consistency across all formats is a major boost for India. He chipped in with an unbeaten half-century which helped India to victory. Kohli’s efforts in the run-chase earned him the Man of the Match award, which is his 11th in T20Is.

With this achievement, Virat Kohli is now on par with another T20 legend and he is none other than former Pakistan captain and 2009 ICC WT20 champion Shahid Afridi.

Afridi in his prime days in T20Is entertained the fans at the best scene with the bat and with the ball and his performances reaped him 11 Man of the Match awards.

The two are now tied in the second place for most MoM awards won in T20Is only behind Afghanistan veteran Mohammad Nabi.

Kohli’s unbeaten 72 helped him surpassed his deputy Rohit Sharma in the list of highest run-scorers in the truncated version of the game. His average is now above 50+ across all formats and he is the only cricketer to achieve this feat. Interestingly, Kohli has achieved the same 50+ average last year.

“I don’t know how Virat bhaiya (brother) manages to score these many runs and that too with such consistency. He is a next-level player,” fast bowler Deepak Chahar said at the post-match presentation.

The former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi himself took to his Twitter handle after the match and then congratulated the Indian captain on another fantastic knock while chasing.

“Congratulations Kohli! You are a great player indeed, wish you continued success, keep entertaining cricket fans all around the world,” Shahid Afridi after the match.
