Kohli hints Gill’s International cap in New Zealand series
Indian skipper Virat Kohli has given a hint that Indian U19 star might make his International debut in the ongoing limited overs series against New Zealand.
India have started their short tour of New Zealand with the ODI series opener in Napier on 23rd January. This tour will be a huge testing one for men in blue before the mega event, ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 as the hosts also in a very much stronger position.
Even though India are missing some key players, this is a great chance for them to build a complete team. Unfortunately KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya has to miss the series after the controversies going around them.
Shubman Gill and Vijay Shankar has been named as the replacements and Vijay Shankar received his maiden ODI cap during the third ODI at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Shuman Gill, a star at U19 level is also expected to receive his maiden India cap during the tour.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli has also given a clue about his maiden cap that the management is looking to give some chances for the youngsters as well. The T20I series will be a big chance for the youngsters and fresh faces in the team.
“Also to try a few players here and there and see how they react to different situations or different positions in the team. We are open to doing that as well. You don’t want to be too rigid because you want to be flexible in your mind and in your preparation to be able to competitive during a big tournament like the World Cup,” Kohli said in a pre-match press conference.
