Kohli surpasses Dhoni to record most innings win as captain
In the first Test of the two-match series, Virat Kohli-led India beat Bangladesh by an innings and 130 runs. This was India’s straight sixth win in Test cricket. The hosts won the match in three days.
This was India’s 10th victory by an innings under Virat Kohli. India won by an innings nine times under one of India’s best captain MS Dhoni. So with the win against Bangladesh, Kohli surpassed Dhoni and made a new record.
The next two places on the list are Mohammad Azharuddin and Sourav Ganguly. India won by an innings 8 times under Mohammad Azharuddin and 7 times under Sourav Ganguly.
Rahul Dravid, Kapil Dev and Polly Umrigar have all won two matches by an innings while leading India in the longest format of the game.
India bundled out Bangladesh for just150 runs on the first day of the Indoor Test. In reply, they declared the innings at 493 runs for 6 wickets. Bangladesh started the second innings from behind by 343 runs. Mushfiq scored 63 runs, but Mominul Haque-led Bangladesh was all out for 213 with the failure of others. Indian paceman Mohammad Shami took 7 wickets for 58 runs in the match.
This was also the third instance when India picked-up three successive innings wins on home soil.
