Lahiru Kumara tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the Caribbean tour
Sri Lankan fast bowler Lahiru Kumara has been tested positive for COVID-19 and he is part of the team leaving for West Indies tonight (February 22nd).
Sri Lanka are gearing up for the upcoming tour against West Indies. There Sri Lanka will play three T20Is, three ODIs, and two Tests. The tour was in doubt due to the sudden COVID-19 positive cases in the Sri Lankan camp. Anyhow, now it is confirmed that the tour will go on as planned.
Sri Lanka Cricket announced a 20-member squad for the ODIs and T20Is in West Indies. The team will leave for Antigua tonight. Ahead of the flight tonight, another coronavirus positive case is found on the touring side.

After the squad announcement for the tour, PCR tests were carried out on the set of players leaving tonight for Antigua. In the particular test, the fast bowler is tested positive for the virus.
Anyhow, SLC is likely to carry on the tour as planned. “We have one player positive and we are currently identifying his close contacts. We are confident we can tour if all the other players are negative,” a Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) source told NewsWire.
Another set of PCR tests is done among the traveling players and the results of the set are expected to come by the evening, few hours before the scheduled flight. Either Suranga Lakmal or Vishwa Fernando might be announced as the replacement for the infected player if the tour goes on as per the schedule.
