The Asia Cup is knocking at the door. However, the selectors of the Bangladesh
national team are still not able to announce the team due to the injury of one cricketer after another.
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has extended the team announcement time by three days on BCB's request recently. However, the disastrous situation of the Bangladesh team does not end. According to BCB sources, BDCricTime
understands that Nurul Hasan
Sohan and Litton Das will not be available for the upcoming Asia Cup. Besides, there is uncertainty about Yasir Ali
Chowdhury. And pace bowling all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin's match fitness test is still pending.
Sohan underwent left-hand surgery in Singapore a couple of days ago. It will take four weeks to recover from the injury. As a result, he won’t be able to participate in the Asia Cup starting on August 27. Litton, meanwhile, will need four weeks to recover from a hamstring injury. A BCB source told to BDCricTime, "After Sohan, Litton is not playing in the Asia Cup. He will undergo an MRI tomorrow for a hamstring injury. It will take at least 4 weeks to recover.”
And Yasir, who is suffering from back pain, is also uncertain about playing in the Asia Cup. However, according to the medical team’s advice, he can be on the standby list. He may be on the field if Bangladesh gets a chance to play in the 'Super Four' or the final.
According to BCB sources, BDCricTime has learned, “Yasir is also uncertain (for the Asia Cup). Injections will be given tomorrow for back pain. Then the situation of Rabbi will be assessed. The BCB medical team's observation is that Litton will not be able to play. Rabbi may be kept as a stand-by, if Bangladesh play in the Super Four or the final, that's a consideration."
And even though pace bowling all-rounder Saifuddin has recovered from injury, his match fitness test is still pending. This cricketer will be observed in the match between Bangladesh Tigers and Hyper Performance Unit in Khulna. A BCB source confirmed to BDCricTime, “Saifuddin's bowling fitness is fine, match fitness will be seen in the Khulna match. However, the doctor advised not to bowl more than 4 consecutive overs.”
Meanwhile, on Wednesday (August 10), the selectors are sitting at the residence of BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon to select the Asia Cup team. The Bangladesh team for the Asia Cup will be announced on Thursday.
