Live: Bangladesh in deep trouble losing 5 wickets
Zimbabwe have fought back strongly in the second session of second day’s play of the first Test against Bangladesh at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
The visitors were bowled out for 282 runs in the first innings after they lost their last five wickets for 21 runs in the morning session. Taijul Islam bagged 6 wickets for 108 runs, his fourth Test five-for.
Bangladesh played one over from Tendai Chatara before the lunch. The post-lunch session turned out to be disastrous for the hosts as Chatara and Kyle Jarvis dismantled the Bangladeshi top-order. Imrul Kayes, Liton Das, Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Mahmudullah Riyad all left as four wickets were down for 19 runs.
Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim settled things down for a while. Sikandar Raza was brought in and he delivered straightaway for Zimbabwe with Mominul’s wicket. The left-handers poor form continues as he made 11.
Debutant Ariful Haque joined Mushfiqur on a track which made batsmen struggle on day two. They are on a 25-run stand. Bangladesh have gone into the tea break with 74 runs for five wickets in 28 overs. Zimbabwe are leading by 208 runs. The tourists are eyeing for the last five wickets to wrap up Bangladesh’s innings.
Chatara has been the peak of the bowlers, taking three wickets for nine runs in six overs including three maidens. Jarvis has taken one wicket.
