Success came straight away for Bangladesh in the second session when Shafiul Islam sent back Hashim Amla for 137 in the third ball of the session. It was Test cricket’s 70000th wicket.

Dean Elgar, who was on 172* at lunch, missed out on a maiden double century. He tried to pull a bouncer from Mustafizur Rahman outside off-stump and ended up being caught at midwicket at 199 off 388 balls with 15 fours and three sixez. He became the 12th man to register 199 in Test history, 10th to get out on this score.

Those two were the only success stories for Bangladeshi bowlers in the whole match, the other one being a run out of Aiden Markram (97).

Temba Bavuma and Faf du Plessis put on an unbroken 51-run fourth-wicket partnership. Bavuma made 87-ball 31* while Proteas skipper remained unbeaten on 26 off 49 balls. South Africa declared at 496/3 in 146 overs at tea. Bangladesh are going to bat in the last session of the day.
