Mashrafe and Shakib will play in domestic T20 league: BCB President

After the end of the one-day tournament which will begin on October 11, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will arrange a domestic T20 league.

Shakib and Mashrafe in top 10
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) released the squads for the three-team one-day tournament on Tuesday which will be played from October 11 to October 13. The three teams will be led by Mahmudullah, Tamim Iqbal and Nazmul Hossain Shanto.

While almost all the national cricketers will take part in the tournament, former ODI captain Mashrafe Mortaza has refused to take part in the tournament as he believes he is not fit yet. All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan can’t also take part as his ban ends on October 28. He is currently in USA with his family and he is expected to come back after the ban ends.

However, BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon has assured that both will be available for the domestic T20 league, which is likely to be arranged on November. It is also assumed that BCB will not give NOC to Shakib to play in the Lankan Premier League (LPL) so that he plays in the domestic T20 league.

“Certainly [Shakib will play in the domestic T20 tournament]. That is all I know. Mashrafe will play the next one after the three-team 50 over tournament. “It is not that he is not interested to play the three-team 50-over game, but he had suddenly heard about it and the thing is he needs to quarantine and it will take some time for his preparation to regain his fitness, but he will play the next available tournament,” he said.

It is yet to be decided if Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) will take place this year or not as the franchises are not willing to take part without the availability of foreign stars. However, BCB wants to arrange the domestic league in place of that and the president has insisted that they will arrange a five-team tournament where 75 local players will play.

“We are yet to finalise whether it will be a corporate tournament or sponsored by the BCB. But it is confirmed that this tournament is going to take place. It’s another issue that we were unable to take a decision today which was whether we would allow foreign players or not and I have taken a day’s time before taking the decision.”

“Apart from that, almost everything is final and we are interested to arrange a five-team tournament where we could have at least 75 local players can participate and we can do that,” he added.
