Bangladesh were rattled by the Caribbeans in two Tests. The ODI series was a different story. Mashrafe-led Bangladesh went on to win by 2-1, their first away ODI series win since 2009.

Mashrafe is a motivator to most of the cricketers in Bangladesh. Opener Tamim, who was the Player of the Series, states that it was Mash who changed the atmosphere of Bangladesh side.

“Naturally we were very down after the Test series. The ODI series was very important since this was one of those formats where we are most comfortable. Then Mashrafe Bhai came,” Tamim told reporters. “He had a huge contribution in our comeback. Maybe he did not hold someone’s hand and bat or bowl for them but I think he helped change the team’s atmosphere.

“After a bad Test series, normally there is a lot of negativity within the team and the players do not have a clear mindset. The positive vibe he brought along transmitted to all of us and that was a big factor.”

Bangladesh’s tour started with a 43-run all out in the first innings of Antigua Test. The second Test in Jamaica carried the same batting woes. They were completely outplayed in both Tests. However, change of formats changed the momentum for the visitors as they won both ODI and T20I series by 2-1 each.

“The way we came back to win the ODI and T20 series after the disastrous Test series was something special,” said Tamim.

The left-handed opener also told that change in mindset was vital to win games. Bangladesh looked much more comfortable in the limited overs series than the Tests.
