The Mashrafe Bin Mortaza-led Comilla Victorians picked up a thumping 72-run victory over Shakib Al Hasan’s Rangpur Riders in the Qualifier-1 of the third season of the BRB Cables Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
Being sent to bat first after losing the toss, Comilla posted a comprehensive total of 163 for the loss of 7 wickets, riding on Imrul Kayes’ solid 67 off 48 and Ashar Zaidi’s whirlwind 40-not out off 15. In reply, Rangpur were routed for just 91 in 17 overs with Zaidi starring once again by finishing four for 11 with the ball while Abu Haider Rony also picked four in expense of 19.
With this victory, Comilla Victorians stormed into the final. And in the process, Mashrafe also progressed one step closer to achieving a rare feat. He now needs just one more victory, of course in the final, to win the title for the third consecutive time as a captain. He earlier led Dhaka Gladiators twice to clinch the BPL title in 2012 and 2013.
