Tamim-Shakib-Mushfiqur power Bangladesh to 279

A quickfire finish after a slow start has boosted Bangladesh’s total to 279/4 in the first ODI against Windies at Providence Stadium, Guyana.

Bangladesh opted to bat first at the toss. The start was not very much promising for Bangladesh as they lost Anamul Haque for a duck. The rain halted the play for a while.

Opener Tamim Iqbal and No.3 Shakib Al Hasan were watchful at the beginning on track which looked to be challenging. Tamim was extremely slow in his 87-ball fifty. Shakib was going at a faster rate, 50 in 68 balls.

The match went in Bangladesh’s control as they had enough wickets in hand although the scoring rate was a bit at lower side. The second-wicket partnership soon turned to be Bangladesh’s highest for any wicket against Windies.

Shakib and Tamim added 207 runs, the second-highest partnership for Bangladesh in ODIs. Shakib missed out on his eigth hundred as he made 97 runs off 121 balls hitting 6 boundaries. He got himself dismissed by playing a slog-sweep against Devendra Bishoo.

Tamim brought up his 10th century in 146 deliveries, the slowest by a Bangladeshi batsman. It was his first ton against the Windies and the second by a Bangladeshi against them.

Sabbir Rahman was given stumped although the replays showed his foot was grounded when the bails were off.

Tamim and Mushfiqur Rahim accelerated at the end. Mushfiqur smashed 30 off 11 with 3 fours and 2 sixes. Mahmudullah Riyad finished the innings with a four to take Bangladesh’s total to 279/4, their highest total vs Windies in the Caribbean.

43 runs were scored in the last two overs which gave Bangladesh a challenging total. Tamim carried the bat as he remained unbeaten for 160-ball 130* runs including 10 fours and 3 sixes.
