Mathews leaves West Indies, to miss rest of series

Sri Lanka all-rounder Angelo Mathews has pulled out of the West Indies tour due to family reasons. The cricket board confirmed the news on Thursday (March 11).

So, he’s set to miss the remaining the two ODIs and two Tests of the series. Mathews led Sri Lanka in the T20I series in this tour which they lost by 2-1.

After that, Mathews also played in the first match of the ODI series. Although he could not perform well. Sri Lanka also lost the match by a big margin of 8 wickets. In the remaining two matches of the ODI series, Sri Lanka will not get this former captain in the team.

“The purpose of his return is to attend to a family matter,” Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement without giving details.

Mathews played well in Sri Lanka’s last Test series against England. But Sri Lanka will not get Mathews in the two-match Test series against the West Indies. The two-match Test series will start on March 21. The second match will start on March 29.

Mathews left the West Indies for Sri Lanka on March 11. The last two matches of the three-match ODI series will be played on March 12 and March 14.
