Sri Lanka are gearing up for the upcoming tour against West Indies. There Sri Lanka will play three T20Is, three ODIs, and two Tests. The tour will kickstart on February 3rd with the T20I series. Sri Lanka have arrived in West Indies for the outing after a lot of dramas before leaving Colombo.

Ahead of the tour, Dasun Shanaka has been named as the skipper for Sri Lanka in the shorter version of the game. Unfortunately, the newly named T20I skipper was unable to depart to the Caribbean islands along with his teammates at the last minute.

The reason is that Dasun Shanaka lost his previous passport two years back and the passport was stamped with a USA visa for five years. The previous USA visa came into a problem during the departure time as it is valid for the present time too. “I’d lost that passport two years ago, so I think they need to check whether anyone has used that lost passport and visa to travel in the time since,” Shanaka told.

It was told that the all-rounder will join the team as soon as the official proceedings are completed. But now it looks like he might miss the entire tour since the official works are taking a long delay. With the T20I series starting on February 3rd and the quarantine regulations, Dasun Shanaka has no chance to join with his team at least for the T20I series.

In the absence of the newly named skipper, former captain Angelo Mathews is expected to lead the side in the T20I series. The board has decided to go back with the experienced campaigner rather than naming another new one as a replacement. The all-rounder has a good track record against West Indies in the format.
