Opener Shubman Gill (36) and one-down Rahul Tripathi (39) made significant contributions at the top. Sunil Narine and Dinesh Karthik failed to score runs with both getting dismissed for a duck by Rahul Tewatia.

The fall of wickets added some pressure to KKR. However, Andre Russell took the stage after returning to the side. The Jamaican smashed 3 sixes and a four in his 11-ball 25 runs cameo.

Late blasts from skipper Eoin Morgan took Kolkata to 191/7. Morgan made 68* runs from 35 balls including 5 fours and 6 sixes.

Rajasthan’s run-chase took off in a dramatic fashion with Pat Cummins getting hit for a six over fine leg on the first ball by Robin Uthappa. Ben Stokes scooped Cummins for a six on the fourth ball of the over. Uthappa fell to Kamlesh Nagarkoti’s hands at deep backward square leg. The first over saw 19 runs and a wicket.

Cummins hit back hard at RR in his next two overs. Wicket-keeper Karthik pulled off a screamer to send back danger man Stokes for 18 in the third over. Rajasthan skipper Steve Smith inside-edged onto the stumps in the same over.

The Aussie pacer struck again in the fifth over sending Riyan Parag back for a seven-ball duck as Rajasthan lost their fifth wicket for 37 runs.

Jos Buttler departed scoring 22-ball 35 runs leaving his team’s chances in danger. Tewatia tried but his 31 runs was not enough.

KKR restricted RR to 131/9 in overs to boost up their net run rate.

RCB (14 points, NRR -0.15) will take on DC (14 points, NRR -0.16) on Monday. KKR will hope either of the teams win big. If not, SRH must lose to table-toppers Mumbai Indians in the last league match on Tuesday.

Rajasthan Royals finish eighth in this year’s IPL. Kolkata Knight Riders are currently at fourth position (14 points, NRR -0.21).
