Morgan to lead England in T20 WC in 2020: Ashley Giles
England cricket team achieved tremendous success after beating New Zealand in the final of ICC World Cup for the first time. But their hopes of completing a historic double is doomed as Australia retained the Ashes urn. No team won the five-match series. It ended in a pulsating draw 2-2.
In a recent development, Joe Root will continue to lead the team in Tests even with a new coach. Trevor Bayliss ended his spell as England head coach after the end of the Ashes series.
In addition, Ashley Giles also gave one more update and it was about Eoin Morgan skippering England side in the T20 World Cup in Australia in 2020 according to reports in Sky Sports.
It is indeed good news for England fans as Morgan led his team to maiden World Cup triumph at home. Earlier, he had hinted at stepping down from captaincy last month but with the latest update from Giles must please the England fans.
The 33-year-old player picked up a back spasm during the game against the West Indies at the summer showpiece event. Following this, he added that he needed to come up with a solution to the question of whether he would captain England in the T20 tournament.
Morgan added that fitness is an important factor for a captain and if he wanted to lead, he is interested to lead. He also said while one has to be fit, it is important to find form as well.
Eoin Morgan has captained England in the most number of T20Is i.e. 38 and the best part is that he had led the team to most wins i.e. 21 and the team lost 16 games under his tutelage while one ended as a tie.
There is something special about Morgan in his batting. He scores runs at a brisk pace. He is one of the most brilliant scorers in T20I format with 1,810 runs in 81 outings with 10 fifties to his name.
Morgan was a prominent member of England’s World T20-winning squad in the West Indies in 2010. England are grouped with India, South Africa, Afghanistan and 2 other qualifiers in the T20 World Cup 2020.
