Mumbai Indians’ clinch first win in IPL-11

Three games in a row, three successive defeats – this was what defending champion Mumbai Indian’s story line before the fourth match of the Indian Premier League 2018; Rohit Sharma’s team finally kicked off with a much needed win, quite comprehensively at the end, earned a the victory with a margin of 46 runs against Royale Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

 

Mumbai, secured a substantial total quite surprisingly even after losing both of their openers before opening up the team’s innings. two deliveries with par excellence in the first over of the innings, Umesh Yadav ripped off Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan, leaving skipper Rohit Sharma all in the beginning futiled his decision to bat at number four.

Therefore, the initial loss was mended finely by Sharma and Evin Lewis being with him, both reached their respective half centuries, skipper Rohit Sharma dogged closer to a hundred which he might toned up had he not been caught by Woakes off the bowling of Anderson in the fifth ball of the 20th over. The Mumbai skipper made 10 strokes of four and 5 to sixes.

Lewis was also taken by Anderson – he scored 65 runs with 6 fours and equal number of sixes to that of Rohit Sharma.

Quite contrast to the opposition, Royale Challengers Bangalore started to whip from the very beginning of things.

Captain Virat Kohli and Quinton de Kock raced to 40 runs in 4 overs in the opening. Quinton left Kohli first, followed by AB de Villiers – the South African hard hitter failed to hit through after the outstanding performance in the first match.

The Royale Challengers Bangalore innings became a one man exhibition at last; Virat Kohli remained there till the end, witnessed rest of the members of RCB batting line up to come and go simultaneously. Apart from Quinton de Kock, Mandeep Singh and Chris Woakes are only batsmen to touch the double figure mark in RCB innings.

Kohli’s masterclass innings of 94 runs was full blown – took 62 balls. He secured 7 boundaries and 4 sixes.

With the loss, RCB sunk into even downward position in the point table, they are now in the seventh position among eight contesting franchises.
