Bangladesh lost 2 wickets in 32 runs in their second innings of the second Test by the time batting at number three, Nasir Hossain also failed to score, lost his wicket at 5. Team management deprived Mominul Haque to bat at four down when everyone thought he was needed to guide the team from further downfall.
Upon surprise, Mominul was sent to bat at number eight, even after Sabbir Rahman. At the end of the match, skipper Mushfiqur Rahim was asked about the behind cause of the decision.
Backing the decision, Bangladesh Test skipper told there were certain reasons to send Mominul down the order.
“We pondered over that before sending Mominul in that position. There were some technical issues. We needed a left handed batsman at number four because of the situation. But it was not successful which caused so many questions to rise at the end.”
“Nasir batted well at number four in the previous innings. If he could perform well in the second innings in that position, no one would say anything now. Besides, Shakib always bat at number five,” Mushfiqur said.
