Mustafizur Rahman, the wonder-kid, has been included in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Team of the Year for his tremendous performances with the ball he put on display. Mustafizur is the first Bangladesh player to achieve this feat. In 2009, Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib al Hasan was named in the 2009 ICC Test Team of the Year.

The ICC Test and ODI teams were chosen by a specially appointed selection panel chaired by the ICC’s Cricket Committee chairman and former India captain Anil Kumble.

The qualification period ran from September 18, 2014 to September 13, 2015 and the selection panel included past greats of the world game including former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop, ex England batsman Mark Butcher, former Australia women’s captain Belinda Clark and G Viswanath, Deputy Editor of The Hindu & Sportstar.

The cutter-master, who hails from one of the remote villages of Satkhira, has played 6 matches during the qualification period and he performed well enough to be included in the dream team full of high-profile players of the world, and to be led by none other than the Superman AB de Villiers.

Mustafizur, the 20-year-old young pace bowling sensation, debuted on 18 June 2015 and took 18 wickets at an average of 12.61 in the 6 matches he played during the qualification period that included two 5-wicket hauls versus India. However, Mustafizur overall played 9 matches in 2015 and took a total of 26 wickets at an average of 12.34. He is the first player in the history of the game to have taken 11 wickets in the first two One-Day International appearances.
