”We have appointed him as our head coach until next World Cup. We expect his vast experience at working with age-level players will help him to take our cricketers forward,” a BCB official was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Meanwhile, the former left-handed batsman has already joined the Under-19 squad. The team is currently preparing for

a three-match series against High-Performance Unit at Khulna.

Naveed who replaces Damien Wright, has a long coaching experience as he earlier worked as the head coach of Sri Lanka U19 team back in 2009. He was also involved with the Sri Lankan A as well as Sri Lankan Women team in different capacities.

However, the 44-year old former cricketer does not have a good international cricket record as he played only one Test and three ODIs in his career for Sri Lanka national team.

Earlier, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decided not to extend the contract with the previous coach  Damien Wright ahead of the upcoming edition of the World Cup in 2020 in South Africa. The 41-year old Aussie coach was responsible for taking the team forward during the last edition of the U19 World Cup.
