The BPL governing council authority informed on their pondering over a new domestic T20 league comprised of only local cricketers. The thought, however, was spontaneously embraced from every corner of cricket fraternity in Bangladesh; therefore, BCB is all set to take prompt actions in this regard.
On Tuesday, CCDM Chairman Kazi Inam Ahmed said, “We have decided to arrange a T20 league containing top seven to eight teams of the Premier League. The thought of taking eight teams came for increasing the competitiveness of the competition.”
“Generally it is seen that the best six teams fight for the next round and the next three usually compete to avoid the relegation. There is nothing left for the number seven and eight teams. When best eight teams of the premier league will have the chance, the competitiveness will surely increase a lot,” he said.
About the venue of the tournament, Kazi Inam said, “We want to start the tournament in the home of cricket, Mirpur Shere Bangla National Stadium. Teams will play around two groups or in knock out basis. The attraction of the tournament will surely increase if we could manage the television broadcast.”
The thought of arranging a new domestic T20league was evoked during the last completed BPL where five foreign cricketers in each franchise team curtailed the opportunities of local cricketers.
