New Zealand seal series after tight chase
New Zealand have sealed the series against Sri Lanka after a short cameo from Mitchell Santer. They win the series 2-0 with one match still to go.
Two matches, two tight chases and both the matches went in the favour of the visitors New Zealand in the end. The match had everything, starting from sixes, fours to some serious injuries as well.
The hosts won the toss once again and opted to bat. Kusal Mendis was the first man to depart after a good short innings of 26 following the departure of Kusal Perera of 11. Avishka Fernando (37) and Niroshan Dickwella (39) built a good partnership from there, but the duo departed as soon as the hosts were looking like to go for the boost.
New Zealand skipper Tim Southee was dominant with the ball today, leading his side from front with 3 wickets under his belt and Rance supported him well as he picked up 3 wickets too. Sri Lanka posted a fighting total of 161 runs in the end.
In reply, New Zealand once again had a poor start in the beginning as they were in all sorts of trouble with 3/38. But man in form Collin de Grandhomme (59) played a beautiful knock yet again and this time build a big partnership with Bruce (53).
The hosts were once again back in the game after Bruce lost his wicket due to run-out and Udana removed the man with good touch De Grandhomme.
With 7 runs required in the last over, Tom Santner took his side to the series victory with a six and four to finish things off.
