Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan diagnosed with Hepatitis C

Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan has been diagnosed with hepatitis ahead of the World Cup.

The 20-year old rising all-rounder was reportedly contaminated from non-sterilized instruments during a dental check-up in Rawalpindi.

According to sources close to Shadab, he complained of a tooth trouble and paid a visit to a dentist in Rawalpindi, where he contracted hepatitis C from contact with dental tools.

Ahead of the team’s departure to England, the medical panel of PCB sent the cricketers’ blood samples to the Shaukat Khanum Hospital’s laboratory for routine tests which unfortunately came out positive for hepatitis C, he was re-tested confirm the diagnosis.

Later, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) arranged Shadab’s check-up with a UK based doctor and who advised him to take two weeks of rest.

“Shadab has a check up with Dr Patrick Kennedy, a world renowned gastroenterologist and hepatologist who specializes in liver disease in elite sportsmen and was put on medication,”

said a PCB release.

The PCB spokesman further said, after two weeks rest, Shadab will undergo another round of blood tests in Lahore after which his availability for the World Cup will be assessed.

Shadab was included in Pakistan’s 15-man preliminary World Cup squad announced last month.

PCB sources further said that this kind of treatment usually lasts around three months, but if Shadab will not feel any weakness then he may be able to play in the World Cup. However, he will be required to continue taking medicines for the time being.

Shadab was the only specialist spinner in Pakistan’s squad for the England series. He was replaced by fellow leg-spinner Yasir Shah.
