The results of the Chittagong Test did not have the slightest effect on the spark that Bangladesh showed at different times of the match. After defeating Bangladesh by 8 wickets, Pakistan took the lead of 1-0 in the 2-match Test series.
This was Bangladesh's first match in the second cycle of the ICC Test Championship. After winning the toss at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Liton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim scored 114 and 91 runs respectively to take Bangladesh to 330 in the first innings.
In reply, Pakistan came down to bat and were bowled out for 286 , thanks to the web spun by Taijul Islam, who went on to pick 7 wickets. Despite a 44-run lead, the Tigers were bowled out for 156 in the second innings. Pakistan's target was 202 runs.
The visitors scored 109 runs without losing a wicket at the end of the fourth day. The victory looked assured for Pakistan as they headed into the final day. Openers Abid Ali and Abdullah Shafique yet again stitched a wonderful; partnership of 151 to take their side incredibly close to the target.
The Tigers managed to remove the openers, as Mehidy Hasan Miraz trapped Shafique for 73 and Taijul dismissed Abid for 91. However, the wickets fell too late to bother Pakistan, as skipper Babar Azam, alongside Azhar Ali took Pakistan over the line.
