Pandya, Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar return to action


Indian superstars Hardik Pandya, Shikhar Dhawan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are set to come back to action after injury lay-offs, as they will play in the DY Patil T20 tournament in Mumbai beginning Monday.

Hardik Pandya suffered a lower back injury five months ago and had to undergo a surgery in London. The 26-year-old cricketer has been out of the international circuit since then, and has been recovering at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. So definitely he will be determined to prove his form and fitness.

Fitness has been a big problem for Hardik, which delayed his return to competitive cricket twice during the recovery period. Initially he waas slated to return during the India A team’s tour to New Zealand, and later the senior side’s tour of the same country. Both plans resulted in premature ending as he had not attained full match fitness.

Dhawan and Bhuvneshwar are also on their road to recovery after sustaining injuries. Bhuvneshwar underwent a hernia operation, while Dhawan suffered a shoulder injury during the ODI series against Australia at home last month.

Besides these big draws, players like Manish Pandey, Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Dube, Sanju Samson will also participate in the tournament that has a total of 16 teams with the final match set to be held on March 6.

The DY Patil T20 tournament is now in its 16th edition. It is basically utilised by the Indian players as warm-up platform before the Indian Premier League (IPL). This year it will also serve as a selection precursor ahead of the three-match ODI series against South Africa beginning from March 18.
