Pant, Rahane put India on driving seat
India’s wicketkeeper Rishab Pant and vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane put India on a comfortable position at the end of day 2 as India were 308/4 at the conclusion.
On day 1 Jason Holder won the toss and elected to bat first. Windies batsmen had a mixed day of play on the day 1 of the second Test in Hyderabad. At the close of play, Windies were 295/7 having Roston Chase and Devendra Bishoo on the field.
Both the Windies players started the proceedings of day 2, importantly Roston Chase was on 98. Soon after the start of Play crossed his 4th century in Test cricket and this was his second one against India.
But the Windies first innings lasted for only 30 minutes of play on day 2 as they were bowled out for 311 in the first hour of the play itself. Umesh Yadav picked all the three wickets on day 2 and recorded his career-best figures with his second five-wicket haul in white clothes.
Indian openers Prithvi Shaw and KL Rahul started their first innings a lot more fresh on day 2. But the start was not an ideal for India as Rahul was dismissed only on 4 runs like what happened in Rajkot.
But his opening partner Prithvi Shaw carried out the same momentum from Rajkot and scored his half-century before the lunch in his aggressive style. This time the youngster failed to convert it into a three-digit score since he was dismissed on 70 soon after lunch.
Cheteshwar Pujara also returned to pavilion quickly after Shaw without doing anything bigger. After the two quick wickets in post-lunch session captain Virat Kohli and vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane had a 60 runs partnership before the wicket of Kohli on 45.
India were 162-3 at the time when their captain returned to the dressing room. Following his wicket, Ajinkya Rahane and Rishab Pant joined hands and remained unbeaten till the close of play with 146 runs stands for the fifth wicket.
Both the Indians scored half-centuries and carried out the same rhythm till the end with Rahane and Pant on 75 and 85 respectively.
On the visitors’ bowling card their skipper Jason Holder opened the account with the wicket of KL Rahul and he bagged two to his name so far. While Shannon Gabriel and Jomel Warrican took one wicket each.
