Perera, Badree sign for Rangpur Riders
Rangpur have a new owner once again. Their third owner since their debut in 2013. Basudhanara Group has owned the Riders side. With new ownership, they have started to bring players for the fifth edition of BPL.
West Indian duo leg-spinner Samuel Badree and batsman Johnson Charles, Sri Lanka’s Thisara Perera and Ravi Bopara of England have been confirmed as overseas players for the side.
Perera was with the Riders team in 2015. He played for Barisal Bulls last season. He showed good form for Sri Lanka this year. He played in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 in England and Wales.
Badree is set to play his second tournament in BPL. He took part in the inaugural edition of 2012 for Khulna Royal Bengals under the captaincy of Shakib Al Hasan. He has been a regular face in West Indies’ T20 team. He took a hat-trick in IPL this year for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Mumbai Indians.
Essex all-rounder Bopara is set to play for his fourth team in BPL. He played for Chittagong Kings and Sylhet Superstars before, in 2013 and 2015. He was a part of Dhaka Dynamites’ champion side last year.
Charles, a batsman who can give a brisk start to his team at the top, will play his first BPL tournament. He has been out of the Caribbean side for almost a year.
Meanwhile, Rangpur are trying to rope West Indian superstar Chris Gayle and Soith African all-rounder Chris Morris in. They have appointed Tom Moody as head coach for three years.
