Sudden downpour at the Basin Reserve forced the first day’s play to stop early in Wellington after the home team won the toss and sent Bangladesh to field first. The initialization was not well for the Tigers, losing opener Imrul Kayes at the beginning of things.

However other opener Tamim Iqbal Khan altered the situation a little bit with his shorter than run a ball half century; playing 50 deliveries all together, Tamim scored 56 runs with 11 shots to the boundary. Tamim and one down batsman Mominul Haque built up a 44 run second wicket partnership.

Tamim, unfortunate though, lost his wicket scoring 56 runs, trapped leg before wicket by Boult. Mominul Haque’s effort remain continued till the end of the day. The organized and compact inning of the little dynamo led him to complete the first day of the first Test at Wellington at 64 runs. He faced 110 deliveries with 10 shots to the boundary and one for over boundary.
