Prithvi Shaw makes it easy for me: Dhawan
Delhi Capitals opener and the orange cap holder of this season, Shikhar Dhawan reserved the highest praise for his opening partner Prithvi Shaw for his batting brilliance in the ongoing season. The duo who were wreaking havoc on the opposition with quickfire partnership this season took the Punjab Kings’ bowling attack to the cleaners.
Chasing 167, Shaw and Dhawan added a 63-run opening-wicket partnership that laid a good foundation for the Capitals to gun down the target with 14 balls to spare. Dhawan was the star of the show for Delhi Capitals as he scored 69 off 47 balls with the help of 6 fours and 2 sixes at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
After the game, DC skipper Rishabh Pant conceded after their success that batting was not that easy as it looked like when DC opening pair smashed Punjab’s new-ball bowlers. Prithvi tried to make most of the powerplay overs with a 22-ball 39, smashing 3 sixes and 3 boundaries.
Dhawan is dominating the run-charts with 379 runs whereas Shaw scored 308 runs. The duo is among the top 5 run-getters in the ongoing season. While speaking to the broadcaster at the post-match presentation, Dhawan said he has been playing with Shaw for three years now and added that the 21-year-old is making it easy for him.
“‘I have been playing with Prithvi for three years now. He makes it easy for me the way he strikes it. At the same time, I stick to my process. Last match there was nothing to do from my side, but this match I knew I had to cash in,” the current orange cap holder said.
Dhawan maintained a strike rate of 134 this season and his quick gameplay has helped his team provide a blistering start to the game. “It’s good to get the strike rate up and get the price up as well! (laughs) I keep tabs on both runs and strike rate, both sync. But it depends on the wicket as well, you have to respect it. Today there was dew, last two games there weren’t. When it comes on nicely I take more risks,” Dhawan added.
