History says Afghanistan have given Bangladesh a good go in all formats as players from both teams know each other quite well thanks to franchise leagues like BPL.
Spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman played a vital role in taking his team Fortune Barishal, led by Shakib Al Hasan, to the finals of BPL 2022. He finished with 10 wickets at an economy of 5.81 in eight games.
A handful of Afghans played for Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal's Minister Dhaka with Qais Ahmad (in ODI squad as reserve), Fazalhaq Farooqi, Najibullah Zadran (did not play a game) and Azmatullah Omarzai among the ones in the ODI team. In the past Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi also plied their trades in BPL.
Newly appointed skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi believes his players' participation in the BPL will allow them plan better.
"Quite a lot," Shahidi said on how it will help his team. "We have all played here in Bangladesh. A lot of the boys who are in the squad have the experience of (playing) BPL. So, it will help us with the wickets and grounds and everything."
The tourists had a conditioning camp in Sylhet before their arrival to Chattogram for three-match ODI series. Before that they whitewashed Netherlands 3-0 in Doha, Qatar.
"We had a good preparation in Qatar before Sylhet. We covered all the things we needed. After that, we had six days in Sylhet. So, we are well prepared and we will try our best," Shahidi said.
A Test win in Chattogram in 2019 will undoubtedly be remembered as Afghanistan's finest victory. Shahidi hopes his team can replicate that in the limited-overs format.
"Yes, of course I want to start from there. We have good memories here, and took positive things. We will try to start it again from tomorrow.
