Rahul Tewatia explains why he imitates Sheldon Cottrell’s salute

The Rajasthan Royal’s all-rounder, Rahul Tewatia has clarified after the franchise posted a video in which the all-rounder mocked Sheldon Cottrell’s famous salute celebration.

The left-handed batsman came to spotlight when he smashed the West Indies’ bowler for five sixes in an over. Tewatia was sent up the order to tackle the spinners of Kings XI Punjab.

But, he could not connect a single delivery off Ravi Bishnoi. At one point, Sanju Samson denied to give a strike to Tewatia. He was not in good touch as he scored just 17 runs from 23 deliveries.

When they needed 51 runs from the 3 overs and with Rahul Tewatia struggling to hit big shots, the game was almost over for Royals. But, he changed everything within a span of 6 balls.

The left-arm pacer, Sheldon Cottrell came to bowl the 18th over and Tewatia smashed four consecutive sixes before hitting another one on the last ball. With his hard hittings, he changed the course of the game towards Rajasthan Royals.

After winning the game, the Rajasthan Royals posted a video of celebration of players. In the video, Tewatia was seen doing Cottrell’s trademark salute celebration. The way he did the celebration, it looked like as if he was making fun of Cottrell.

But, the left-handed batsman said that he loves the celebration of Cottrell and he has a huge respect for Cotrell’s army background.

“For those who noticed, I love Cottrell’s celebration and have huge respect for his army background, it was just my lucky day. Don’t think I can do it as well as him though thanks guys for all the love.”
