Rajshahi ‘wholeheartedly’ want Mashrafe
Minister Group Rajshahi have approached Mashrafe Bin Mortaza to play in the league stage of Bangabandhu T20 Cup.
Mashrafe was not named in the players’ draft but BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) has eased the former Bangladesh captain’s way to get a team in the ongoing tournament. Rajshahi looks to be confident about including the Narail Express in their side.
“It will be great if we can have Saifuddin and Mashrafe together. The bowling is very important for us to win the next three games. So we want Mashrafe. We are in a position where Mashrafe can let us know his decision and the board can also finalise things through our medical team. That’s why we have decided to express our desire to have Mashrafe,” Rajshahi team manager Hannan Sarkar revealed to the media.
The 37-year-old has not played any cricket since March. But Rajshahi already seem to be considering to hand over the captaincy to Mashrafe from Najmul Hossain Shanto.
“To be honest, we didn’t think like this. Mashrafe is a type of player or captain whom we cannot take decision without discussing with him. Mashrafe’s opinion will get the priority. The first question once he enters the tean will be, ‘Do you want to do the captaincy?'”
Rajshahi will take on Gemcon Khulna on Sunday. If everything goes as per the plans, Mashrafe might well be seen in Rajshahi’s jersey against Fortune Barishal on Tuesday.
“Tomorrow (Sunday) is our sixth match. We will have two more matches after this. Since our seventh match is on December 8, so we would like to get a decision by tomorrow. If he plays two matches in the league stage, our chances of playing the play-offs will be easier. We wholeheartedly want Mashrafe on the 8th,” Sarkar added.
