Rangpur Rangers clinch first victory of the season
Rangpur Riders clinched their first win of the season after beating the hosts Chattogram Challengers by 6 wickets in match number 16 of the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
It was finally a night to cheer for Rangpur Rangers as they grabbed their first victory of the season while it was Chattogram Challengers’ first defeat at home after winning all three games.
After being put into bat first, Chattogram suffered an early blow after losing Lendl Simmons for a duck, but Avishka Fernando played a blinder of an innings to get back into the game. With 8 fours and 4 sixes, he scored 72 off just 40 balls. A little cameo from the newcomer Liam Plunkett powered to a fighting total of 163 in the end.
Mustafizur Rahman looked at his best after a lot of time in this game as he picked up 2 wickets and conceded only 23 runs including one maiden. Lewis Gregory also chipped in and picked up two wickets.
In reply, Rangpur were in all sorts of trouble after losing 3 wickets with 30 odd runs on the board. Openers Mohammad Naim and Mohammad Shahzad both were back in the dressing room along with Tom Abell.
But the man who contributed with the ball, looked even better with the bat. Lewis Gregory hammered 76* off just 37 balls to snatch the victory away from the hosts. Fazle Mahmud also supported well with his unbeaten knock of 38* off 21 balls.
In the end, the duo helped Rangpur Rangers clinched their first victory comfortably by 6 wickets.
