Reason behind Hasan’s inclusion in Pakistan T20Is

Mehedi Hasan Rana was one of the biggest surprises in the just concluded Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2019-2020. But there was an even bigger surprise when Hasan Mahmud was called up for the upcoming Pakistan T20Is in place of him.Reason behind Hasan's inclusion

However, Bangladesh chief selector Habibul Bashar Sumon has revealed the reason why they picked Hasan in place of Rana.

Rana had initially been unpicked in the BPL Players’ Draft. But he was later bought in by Chattogram Challengers. The pacer from Chandpur made no mistake to utilize the opportunity, as he grabbed 18 wickets from 10 matches. Apart from match-winning spells, he also had quite impressive economy rate of 7.50.

On the other hand, this is the first time pacer Hasan has been called up to the national side. The Dhaka Platoon pacer took 10 wickets from 13 matches in the Bangabandhu BPL, with his economy rate being 9.20.

In all, Rana was way ahead of Hasan in terms of statistics. But the chief selector explained that Hasan has been under their observation for a long time. They have found the kind of pacer they want for Bangladesh national side in Hasan.

Meanwhile, Rana may have been overlooked this time around, but he is also being considered for the future. Habibul Bashar assured that Rana too will be provided an opportunity in the future.
