Riyad, Hasan star as Mahmudullah XI pick up comfortable win
An unbeaten half century from Mahmudullah Riyad, alongside Hasan Mahmud’s four-for with the ball helped Mahmudullah XI beat Tamim XI by five wickets in the first intra-squad 40-over match at BKSP ahead of the three-match ODI series against West Indies.
Chasing a 162-run target set by Tamim XI, Mahmudullah XI were in trouble early on, as they lost Yasir Ali (3 off 10 balls) quickly. The returning Shakib Al Hasan was also run out by Mustafizur Rahman with the team score 33 for two. The biggest superstar of Bangladesh cricket played 23 balls and stayed at the crease for half an hour, but still could score only 9 runs.
However, opener Naim Sheikh batted well for his 52-ball 43 with the help of 7 fours, and Mushfiqur Rahim scored 28 runs off 48 balls. Towards the end, it was all about captain Mahmudullah, who scored a fine half-century (51 off 64 balls, 4 boundaries) to take his side home. Mehedi Hasan Miraz was also not out on 13 off 14 (2 fours) after Mosaddek Hossain making just 3. For Tamim XI, Saifuddin, Mustafizur, Nasum Ahmed and Mahadi Hasan took one wicket apiece.
Mahmudullah was adjudged the man of the match for his match winning knock.
Earlier in the morning, Tamim XI came to bat first after losing the toss and could gather only 161 runs in 37.2 overs. Afif Hossain was the highest run-scorer for Tamim XI, striking one four and three sixes to make a quickfire 32-ball 35. Tamim also looked good in his 28 runs (3 fours) but failed to convert the good start to a bigger knock. Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 27 (3 fours) while Soumya Sarkar and Mohammad Mithun scored 24 and 16 runs, respectively. No other batsman from Tamim’s side could reach the two figures. Mohammad Saifuddin was unbeaten on 9, and Mustafizur scored 9 off four balls with the help of two boundaries.
Young pacer Hasan Mahmud was the pick of the bowlers for Mahmudullah XI, as he alone took four wickets, returning Tamim, Shanto, Nasum and Rubel. Shoriful Islam and Al-Amin Hossain got two wickets each. Shakib Al Hasan bowled 6 overs and conceded 31 runs, but remained wicketless. The only silver lining in his spell was one maiden over.
