Riyad hopes Shakib finds feet in first match
Mahmudullah Riyad, who is Shakib Al Hasan’s captain in Gemcon Khulna team, has spoken positive words on the latter ahead of their first game in Bangabandhu T20 Cup 2020.
A strong Gemcon Khulna side will take on Fortune Barishal in the second match of the tournament on Tuesday. The match will mark Shakib’s return to professional cricket after serving one-year ban imposed by the ICC (International Cricket Council).
Khulna bought two A grade players – Shakib and Mahmudullah – in the draft. Later Mahmudullah was appointed as captain. The skipper is delighted to have Bangladesh’s best in his team.
“Feeling is good (on Shakib’s return). We all know the importance of Shakib, be it international arena or domestic arena. We are obviously happy for him that he is back and playing in our team. It is a very good thing to have,” Mahmudullah said while speaking to the media in Mirpur.
Shakib has not had a match practice before the T20 Cup. He had earlier trained at BKSP in September when Bangladesh were preparing for possible Sri Lanka tour. The 33-year-old returned to USA after the tour was postponed.
It has been more than two weeks of Shakib staying in Bangladesh. Mahmudullah believes his trump card will find form soon.
“I always believe the type of calibre and capability Shakib has, there should not be any doubt when it comes to his achievement and performance. So I am hopeful of him finding his feet in the first match. I don’t see any such rustiness in him. I believe he is very eager to play and looking forward to play well.”
