Sabbir’s punishment to be revealed on Monday

Bangladesh hard hitter batsman Sabbir Rahman, after being allegedly reported for assaulting a fan during the last round National Cricket League match between Rajshahi Division and Dhaka Metropolis, would possibly be come under gross punishment and the decision will be taken on Monday, informed by BCB disciplinary committee vice chairman Sheikh Sohail. He said, “Tomorrow (Sunday) I’ll check the report and then we will seat on Monday. If we think he (Sabbir Rahman) should be called then we will call him.”

He further said, “In this incident Sabbir is convicted of two misconduct; the first one is to assault a teenage spectator and then to behave badly with the match officials. I am very much surprised finding such a star cricket behaving so rudely with a boy; perhaps the lad came to watch the game as a fan of Sabbir.”

The disciplinary committee vice chairman also indicated the nature of punishment will be extensive.

“I can’t say now what will come through but I say the punishment will be substantial indeed,” he said. Sabbir’s case is being investigated under level-4 offence.

Apart from physically assaulting the teenager, Sabbir aggressively behave with match referee Showkatur Rahman when he called him to investigate the incident.

Sabbir has a record of facing disciplinary actions a number of times in the past. In 2016, BCB fined him US$ 14,000 for off-field disciplinary breaches during the Bangladesh Premier League.
