Sehwag sees no place for Dhoni in Indian team
Indian wicket-keeper batsman MS Dhoni has been away from cricket since the 2019 World Cup in England. He was set to make a comeback in the Indian Premier League (IPL), but the tournament has been postponed till April 15.
It has been a long wait for the cricket world to see the wicket-keeper batsman MS Dhoni back in action and as the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been postponed till April 15, the wait extends and it calls for more trouble for the 38-year old batsman.
Earlier India’s head coach Ravi Shashtri said that Dhoni has to perform well in order to stay in contention for the T20 World Cup squad that is set to take place this year in Australia.
Meanwhile, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag feels he has currently no place in the Indian team with KL Rahul in peak form and Rishabh Pant waiting at the bench. India also looked settled with Rahul keeping wickets in the recently concluded T20I and ODI series against New Zealand.
“Where will he fit in? With the likes of Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul already in form, especially the latter performing exceptionally well of late, I think there is no reason why we should not stick with them,” Sehwag said.
Sehwag also talked about the Indian captain Virat Kohli, who had a miserable series with the bat in the New Zealand tour. He managed to score only one fifty across all formats, but Sehwag believes he will come back stronger than ever and said every player faces a phase like this.
“He [Kohli] is a class batsman but that has happened to all the great batsmen in different eras be it Sachin Tendulkar, Steven Waugh, Jacques Kallis or Ricky Ponting. We must admit that the Kiwis were superior to us in the ODIs and Tests. In the T20s, Kiwis lost close matches. In the shortest format it is always difficult to make a quick comeback,” he concluded.
