Sensational Simi ensures Ireland draw UAE series
Ireland have thrashed United Arab Emirates by 112 runs in the fourth ODI to level the four-match series 1-1, thanks to a fifty and a five-for from Simi Singh.
Simi became only the second Irish and the 19th overall to achieve such double. This also the first instance of such since Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh achieved it against Afghanistan in the 2019 World Cup.
Simi batted 57 balls for an unbeaten 54* with two fours and sixes apiece before bringing down destruction in UAE batting line-up.
All top five UAE fell to Simi’s right-arm off-break as the Indian-born cricketer gave away just 10 runs in as many overs, including four maidens. Only six bowlers have taken five wickets at fewer runs in ODI history.
UAE were bundled out for 116 runs in 36 overs while chasing 229. The hosts turned 46/0 to 64/6. Zawad Farid made 28 at the top.
Being sent into bat first, Ireland were reduced to 10/3 inside the powerplay. Harry Tector (33) and Lorcan Tucker (42) added resistance before Simi and Curtis Campher hit fifties. Campher made 72-ball 56 runs and involved in a 91-run stand with Simi for the sixth-wicket.
Ireland recovered early losses to put 228/6 on board.
The fourth ODI in Abu Dhabi was given a green signal after the second and third were suspended due to COVID outbreak in UAE squad.
