Shakib back to Tridents, Gayle stays with Patriots

The players’ draft of Caribbean Premier League 2018 has been held in London on Thursday. Two Bangladeshis – Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah Riyad – have got teams in the draft.

Martin Guptill, Sohail Tanvir, Andre Russell, Lendl Simmons, Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo attained highest bid US$160,000 in the first round.

Shakib was Barbados Tridents’ second pick after Guptill. The all-rounder was picked at $130,000 (1,07,00,000 in BDT) in the second round. Shakib previously played for them in 2013.

Mahmudullah was picked in the fifth round of the draft at $70000 (৳5800000) by Gayle and Evin Lewis’ team St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. Mahmudullah came in as a replacement player for Jamaica Tallawahs last year.

Nepali wrist-spinner Sandeep Lamichanne was picked by the Patriots. Kieron Pollard and Darren Sammy will play in the same team in St Lucia Stars.
