Shakib bags man of the tournament award with all-round brilliance
Dhaka Dynamites might have failed to clinch the title, but skipper Shakib Al Hasan bagged yet another man of the tournament award.
Despite being not fully fit due to the finger injury before the start of the tournament, Shakib produced all-round brilliance throughout the tournament. He is also the leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 23 wickets.
However, Shakib was expensive with the ball in the final. He picked up one wicket and conceded 45 runs in his 4 overs. After picking up the wicket tonight, he surpassed Taskin Ahmed, who picked up 22 wickets. Apart from them, the other three in the top-5 list are Bangladeshi too.
Mashraf Bin Mortaza and Rubel Hossain picked up 22 wickets each while Mohammad Saifuddin picked up 20 wickets. Shakib was also handy with the bat as he scored 301 runs in 15 matches. He was 9th in the leading run-scorer list. Rilee Rossouw topped the list with 558 runs while player of the final Tamim is the second highest-scorer with 467 runs.
The fourth-wicket stand between Tamim and skipper Imrul Kayes produced 100 runs in 46 balls as Victorians romped to 199/3 in 20 overs to set Dhaka a target of 200 runs to win.
Comilla pushed Dhaka on the backfoot as the Dynamites slumped to 143/7 from 102/1. Dhaka never recovered from the blow as Mohammad Saifuddin defended 21 runs in the last over to clinch the title.
Previously, Comilla won the 2015 title by beating Barisal Bulls in the final. Dhaka played their third straight BPL final and ended up being runners-up on consecutive occasions.
